One Last Wish

Marcus stood by the hospital window, staring out into the night while doctors tried everything, experimental drugs, every treatment imaginable, but his wife’s illness kept advancing relentlessly. He loved her more than anything, and she loved him just as deeply.

One night she took his hand and whispered, “You are still young and good looking, darling. Please, when I’m gone… go and live the life we could have had.”

He shook his head, sad and angry. “Don’t speak like that. We will find a way Amanda. You have to want it. Wish for it.”

Amanda kissed his hand, smiled weakly and fell asleep.

Later, as he scrolled through his socials beside her bed, a photo appeared of a young Ukrainian woman in her mid-twenties. She reminded him so much of his wife when they first started dating, that same warm smile, long dark straight silky hair, except this girl had the body of a model. He lowered his phone, looked at the clear sky, and whispered, “If only you could be as healthy as this woman…”

A sudden flash streaked across the night sky. His heart pounded. He glanced at the girl on his phone, then at the reflection of his frail wife in the bed. “Wish it was that easy…”

He eventually fell asleep scrolling.

He woke up to frantic beeping and shouting. A team of nurses and doctors surrounded his wife’s bed. One nurse grabbed him. “Sir, finally you’re awake! Your wife is having some sort of panic attack, her body might not be able to handle it!”

He rushed over. The staff had her arms and legs pinned. A doctor tried to inject a sedative. Her IV had been ripped out, blood dripping everywhere. The scene was chaotic and cruel. He tried to reach her.

“Honey, whatever happens, know that I’m here for you and I love you.”

Amanda thrashed wildly, yelling words no one understood, refusing to be touched. He tried to kiss her but she pulled away violently. The bed restraints snapped. She fell to the floor, breathing heavily… and then went still.

The doctor declared time of death: 3:33 AM.

Hours blurred as family, doctors, and insurance people came and went. The hospital’s legal team was already nervous about a possible lawsuit over the mishandling. His own lawyer urged him to sue, the medical record showed no prior mental issues, and a settlement could easily reach six figures. But he had no head for any of that. He just wanted to go home.

When he finally walked through the door, the old voicemail machine was blinking, the landline his wife always teased him about keeping. Only the two of them knew the number.

He pressed play.

A sweet, frightened woman’s voice filled the room:

“Please Marcus pickup! I don’t know what happened! I’m not sure where I am! One minute I’m falling asleep at the hospital bed and when I wake up I’m wearing some skimpy bikini on a cold beach… my body feels strange! And I want out of here, everything is very strange and I don’t understand anything of what everyone is saying, I think they speak Russian! Please help me out of here!”

Marcus stood frozen in their quiet house, staring at the blinking voicemail machine. A young woman had just left a panicked message claiming to be his wife. None of it made sense, but something in her voice kept him by the phone until it rang again.

He answered immediately.

“Thank God you’re there!” the sweet but frightened voice cried. “Marcus, it’s me, Amanda. I don’t know what happened. One minute I was falling asleep in the hospital bed… the next I woke up on this freezing beach wearing almost nothing. I feel somehow… younger, it... doesn't hurt anymore... But I’m so scared and cold.”

He sat down slowly. “If it’s really you, tell me what you whispered to me yesterday in your bed.”

Her voice softened. “I told you that you’re still young and good looking, and that when I’m gone you should live the life we always wanted. Then I kissed your hand.”

It was her. No one else could know that.

He quickly gave her his cellphone number. “Text me instead of calling our landline so we can stay connected, also send me your location.”

A moment later his phone buzzed. She had shared her coordinates, somewhere near the coast of Crimea. Then another message arrived: a worried selfie.

Marcus’s breath caught. The woman in the photo looked exactly like his wife just ten years ago, same smile, same long dark hair, but healthier, younger, and glowing with vitality. Amanda stared at the camera with wide, scared eyes, clearly terrified.

“I don’t understand any of this,” she texted. “Please come get me.”

“I'll find a way,” he replied, his hands shaking. “Just stay safe. I’ll do anything to bring you back home to me. We’ll figure everything out together. I love you.”

For the first time since her illness began, real hope filled his chest.

Marcus knew he couldn’t do this alone. He went back to the hospital’s legal team and made them an offer: he would drop the lawsuit if they helped him quietly extract a “kidnapped woman” from near Russian territory. They refused, citing the massive ethical and legal risks. But as he was leaving, one of the lawyers pulled him aside.

“I have contacts,” the man whispered. “I can get her out. But I want half of whatever settlement we still squeeze from the hospital.”

Marcus agreed without hesitation.

Amanda was given careful instructions. She made her way to a safe address, where she was given oversized clothes and hidden in a small dark room with a bit of food, a lamp, and a table. She felt safe for the first time since waking up on that cold beach.

Marcus kept her company through constant messages and calls. “You’re doing great, love. Just stay hidden. I’m coming for you.”

Alone in the quiet room, she finally had a moment to truly look at herself. Using the phone’s camera, she studied her reflection. She touched her face, her smooth skin, her now flat and toned belly that used to be painfully skeletal in her final days.

“I feel… younger,” she whispered to herself, a small smile forming.

Amanda slowly ran her hands over her curves, full breasts, narrow waist, soft hips. Her younger libido began to awaken. She caressed her breasts, teasing the nipples until they hardened, then let one hand drift lower between her legs. A soft moan escaped her lips as she explored her new sensitivity, fingers circling her clit and then sliding inside her warm wetness.

She had no idea the phone was streaming everything live to Marcus.

He watched every second, her fingers moving faster, her breathing turning into quiet gasps, her body trembling as she brought herself closer and closer to the edge. Even through the small screen, the sight of his wife young, healthy, and lost in pleasure was the most beautiful thing he had seen in years.

He would bring her home soon.

Amanda was finally brought to the docks one quiet night. A medium-sized humanitarian aid boat had been emptied of its cargo, and she was hidden inside one of the shipping containers for the long journey home. Communication with Marcus was scarce and cautious, but she was safe.

The mysterious contact who arranged everything later met Marcus privately. “I need papers for her. Who is she really?”

Marcus’s eyes filled with sadness. “She is the only person related to my wife who is still alive.”

The man raised an eyebrow. “A sister?”

Marcus simply nodded. The man sighed but agreed to forge her a new identity. When asked for a name, Marcus answered without hesitation:

“Amanda… Amanda Stevens.”

The man gave her the exact same birth date as Marcus’s deceased wife, even though the young woman clearly didn’t look thirty-five. The papers were perfect.

When Amanda finally stepped through the door of their home, she was exhausted, starving for food, water, and most of all, her husband. They held each other for a long time, crying and whispering how much they had missed one another.

That night they slept together in their own bed for the first time since she had been confined to the hospital. Around 4 a.m., their bodies found each other again. Her younger libido and his long-repressed desire ignited at the same time. They woke up already making out hungrily, hands roaming, breathing fast. Exhausted but eager, they made passionate love, slow and deep at first, then frantic and desperate, rediscovering every sensation they had been denied for so long. Amanda came hard with a cry of pure joy, and Marcus followed soon after, holding her tightly as they trembled together.

Marcus never told her about the wish. Amanda never realized the body she now lived in wasn’t originally hers. She simply felt younger, healthier, and deeply in love.

Every year on the anniversary of the death, Marcus visited the grave of his wife’s original body. He brought flowers, thanked the Ukrainian girl who had unknowingly given them this second chance, and quietly apologized for everything that had happened.

They had their life back, together.
